Ten Basic Rules For Gardening

Ten basic rules for gardening
Rule #1 – Buy plants from a very reputable source–I prefer nurseries over discount stores and warehouse stores.
Rule #2 – Select plants that will grow in your climate–consider your high and low temperatures.
Rule #3 – Plant your plants in the right place in your yard–sun-loving plants in the sun, shade-loving plants in the shade.
Rule #4 – Provide your plants with complete nutrition. Most fertilizers and plant foods don’t. Spray-N-Grow and Bill’s Perfect Fertilizer provide major and minor elements identified by botanists as necessary for plant growth and production.
Rule #5 – Water your plants properly.
Rule #6 – Keep your plants bug free. Look for bugs on your plants as often as possible. Apply an organic and environmentally friendly bug killer if necessary.
Rule #7 – Watch for plant disease. Spray your plants with Physan 20 or Serenade if you see any wilting, black spots, etc.
Rule #8 – Weed around your plants or use All Down Organic Weed and Grass Kill or Burnout Weed and Grass Killer.
Rule #9 – Deer, rabbits, squirrels and other animals may try to feast Read More…

A Green Garden In Fall – Learn How To Keep Your Garden Green Always

Most gardeners work hard to maintain attractive colorful gardens throughout the summer, but many of us forget to do what’s necessary to maintain that beauty into the fall and winter. Here is some advice that will help you prolong the life and looks of your garden by taking just a few extra steps during the summer.

At the first sign of that yellowish brown tone, take action. Pinch back the yellowing foliage and wilting flowers as quickly as you notice them. This will have instant results, as this action will immediately restore your green garden’s freshness. Removing the dying parts of your plants will direct nutrients to the remaining healthy portions and add to the plant’s life. Give your garden a little more water in the late summer and early fall to compensate for depleted nutrients and lower humidity.
In August, you should Read More…

Mulch and Feed your Gardens for Free

In Today’s throwaway society, there is absolutely no need to go out and purchase mulch material for your garden, unless it is for the particular aesthetic appearance, “The Look”, sake of the mulch material.

Were you aware that there are a number of mulching materials that you can obtain from around your own community that are free, and some of which can even be even delivered to you for nothing as well.

Impossible you might say. Well I mulch my gardens fairly heavily, and I never pay a cent for the mulch material. As a matter of fact, most of the mulch is willingly delivered to my home for nothing. As the former owners are only too glad to see the back of it, as it would cost them money, time and effort to find other ways of getting rid of it.

I also combine these outside sources of mulch with my own compost, weeds and other organic matter mixed through to achieve a great result in my garden, and so all that it costs me is time and effort. Read More…
